I am an Australian born 67 year old, and have been married for 40 years with three adult children. I am witnessing first-hand the stress that the rapidly increasing price of housing is placing on my own children and their generation.

I began working in the electrical industry in 1974 and since 2008 have owned and run a Queensland based contracting company, employing five people. My company provides Electrical and Instrumentation quality control services to the water industry.

I believe that Australia, with its abundance of natural resources, should have one of the highest living standards in the world. Unfortunately, due to the poor quality of our government, including most two-party politicians, we seem to be heading in the opposite direction. In my lifetime in this country, I have witnessed the intractable rising cost of living. This has led to climbing levels of debt. Nowadays homelessness is common, a tragic reality that can no longer be ignored, with the dream of home ownership for many Australians, especially younger people, simply out of reach.

Most western governments including ours have borrowed huge unsustainable amounts of money. Much of it is spent on social reprogramming, interfering in, and controlling people’s personal lives. Government seems to have forgotten that without a solid financial system, built on solid foundations, we will never be able to repay the debt. We must stop the waste and begin the rebuilding of our nation ASAP.

It concerns me, that whenever we get a new government, it is run by career politicians who are selected and nurtured into the two major parties. These politicians seem to think that someone (not the people who elected them) has given them a mandate to pursue a long-held fantasy of having an unlimited budget for creating a new society, based on their personal and party-political beliefs.

Furthermore, the two major parties seem to specialise in passing legislation which looks like it addresses peoples’ current concerns but with many loopholes built in. I don’t believe the current government can be trusted to look after our long-term interests, so we the people must have a louder voice and better leadership that will take us in a better direction.

I joined the Citizens Party about five years ago and am impressed by the people who run the organisation and their supporters who are genuinely seeking solutions to our domestic and international issues. The Citizens Party specialises in giving us a voice and a say in the way we are governed. The party has sound and sensible infrastructure and financial policies.

The Citizens Party believes that people have the right to live their personal lives free of unnecessary government interference, yet wants to be instrumental in building a great country for all of us, regardless of heritage or background, into the future.

Prior to my association with the Citizens Party, I had no real experience in politics, but have learned a tremendous amount and gained a better understanding of our history and global affairs which I believe will stand me in good stead, to represent the best interests of all Queenslanders.
