I am Tasmanian born, living in the Bass electorate for 28 years with my husband Rob.  We have raised five children, set up and run a successful small business plant propagation nursery and been political organisers for the true ideas of a self-governing sovereign Republic of Australia.  I then retrained and returned to work as a Registered Nurse for a further ten years, enjoying caring for people and learning so much about the human condition.  I have had fun looking after grandchildren from time to time.  We are currently owner-builders of affordable housing units and proud of the results of our considerable efforts. I just love the acapella Gospel choir I recently joined, especially for the four-part harmonies sung by these welcoming folk. There is nothing like song to lift us up.

I want to see a much more hopeful future, especially for Australia’s working families supporting children:  who have become ‘enslaved’ by debt in unaffordable housing created by the poor political decisions since the 1990s;  who have little prospects of well-paid employment in high-tech value-adding industries or urgently needed grand infrastructure projects;  who must go-along-to-get along when seeking business or research funding or simply to keep their jobs.  Our Health and Education systems are suffering undue strain with funding cuts (austerity) proposed to meet State or Federal budgetary constraints.  This is a monetary instead of productive economy which will never fund itself.

Most of Australia’s two-parties’ representatives serve their neoliberal masters (this includes the Labor Party!)  The old adage, just follow the money still holds true.  Neoliberal policies have, since the 1990s:  privatised essential services (sold for pittance) with corporates taking profits instead of ‘putting back’ to maintain and grow these systems; enforced policies of ‘user pays’ onto an impoverished population; squeezed profits of small to medium businesses including farmers due to unbridled free trade; dismantled productive secondary industries; and exported our rich raw materials, including needed back-up gas reserves, entirely for corporate gain; pursued unjustified criminal wars in foreign lands, the next versus China our finest trading partner whom the US financial and military technocrats see as a challenge to US hegemony. A US proxy war in Australia would finally destroy this country as it has Ukraine.

All this must stop! Australia must become sovereign and self-reliant again, beginning with a self-funding government owned bank – a Public Postal Bank as the CBA used to be – to help build the country again, including a long term infrastructure development focus; to lend to small businesses; to keep deposits safe; to support remote regional communities; to counter the corporates’ and banks’ denial of rightful abundant prospects for all Australians.

Australia’s politics must again serve the peoples’ interest instead of that of the Big Four banks and corporate cartels who currently dictate terms to our government.
