I was born in Sydney, am 56 years old and moved to Darwin in 1998. Over the years I have enjoyed a number of sports, including rugby league, snow skiing and martial arts, however, this has contributed to knee problems which I now have to deal with.
I am a proud blue-collar worker, having been employed in the transport industry, as well as a factory and industrial process worker. Unfortunately, I faced a serious turning point in my life in 2019, when the 60-tonne vehicle I was driving, was blown over. Since then I have been unemployed and like many other Australians, can no longer afford private health care. This has left me on a long waiting list in the public health system, for repairs to my knee.
And like most Australians, the outrageous cost of housing has impacted me personally. This is why I support the Citizens Party’s policies to revitalise our public healthcare system and to return to affordable public housing with a priority for building homes to live in, rather than for investment and tax minimisation opportunities.
I believe that Australians are losing their freedoms; that we have a right to use legal tender i.e. cash, for the purchase and exchange of goods; that physical access to banking facilities is an essential service; that age should not be a barrier to employment if a person is qualified for the position; that where possible local people should be given preference for local jobs and be guaranteed a living wage; and that a person should be employed based on merit rather than on imposed equity diversity requirements.
Having become increasingly skeptical of politicians and the media, I now research everything I can, to validate the truth. I joined the Citizens Party after reading their emails and following up with a personal meeting with NT Senate candidate Trudy Campbell. Their policies designed to restore government to the people and to cooperate for peace and goodwill internationally, resonated with me and I am sure it will with the people of Solomon. This is why I have decided to run for election for the Citizens Party at the upcoming election.
