Andy Schmulow is an associate law professor, specialising in banking and financial regulation, at the School of Law, University of Wollongong.  Andy built his reputation as a ferocious critic of the banks and the regulators in the lead-up to the 2018 banking royal commission. Since then, he has continued to apply his intellect like a blowtorch, as both major parties have allowed the banks to ignore the royal commission’s recommendations.

Highly qualified, his advice has been sought by governments all around the world. He has demonstrated time and time again his fearlessness, and his willingness to speak truth to power. The Australian Financial Review described him as “spectacularly impolite”. Despite his forthrightness, his arguments are compelling, and his delivery flawless. As a result, his recommendations have been adopted around the world, and by numerous Australian Commissions of Inquiry.

In more recent years, he has impacted major Senate inquiries into:

  • the investigation and enforcement methods of corporate regulator ASIC (Australian Securities and Investments Commission);
  • global accounting giant PwC and the other big accounting firms’ corrupt influence over the Australian Taxation Office and government departments;
  • the market abuses of the Coles-Woolworths retail duopoly; and
  • bank closures in regional Australia.

Andy’s unrelenting criticisms in his submissions and testimony were adopted, often entirely, in the Senate’s final recommendations in all of those inquiries.

Andy Schmulow is fired up. His gripe? Companies are too big and too powerful. So much so, they’re threatening democracy’s foundations, corrupting politicians and bureaucrats with excessive lobbying and generous donations. Read More… (Note: Article is behind Pay Wall)

The man who won’t let it slide: Andy Schmulow’s Senate tilt

Indian Sun – Maria Irene – 21 April 2025

Andy Schmulow isn’t your typical Senate hopeful. The associate professor of law, recently granted leave from the University of Wollongong, is contesting the upcoming federal election under the Australian Citizens Party banner. His focus is New South Wales, where six Senate spots are up for grabs. Andy Schmulow: a bulldog who won’t rest

APAC Business Review – Marcus Reubenstein – 22 November 2024

With ex-partners suing them, the parliament grilling them, the government firing them, the Australian Federal Police investigating them and the media lambasting them, the tax scandal ridden PwC clearly doesn’t have much to worry about. What really irks them is lone academics calling their boss ‘resting bulldog face’. Read More…
